To foster an environment that is inclusive and that encourages self-expression, Lafayette College has established a policy whereby any College community member may use a preferred first name. The College will strive to use an individual’s preferred first name where possible, but a legal first name will be used in business and other processes that require its use. The following describes the process to request the use of a preferred first name on a Lafayette College campus identification card.

Students, faculty and staff members should complete the Preferred First Name Change request form to initiate the process.

After a Preferred First Name Change Request has been submitted, a member of the Provost’s Office, the Office of Human Resources, or the Office of the Registrar will inform you that your request has been received and processed. Once processed, you can obtain a replacement ID reflecting your preferred name. Visit the ID office in Marquis Hall; hours can be found on the ID Office webpage. Fees for preferred first name replacement ID cards will be waived.

The Lafayette College ID is not a legal form of identification. For College processes that require legal identification, individuals should be prepared to produce government-issued ID.
